Client: FARRA Engineering / Multiplex
Location: Sydney, NSW
Project: Access system design, fabrication & installation
In 2019, RIGCOM was awarded the contract to design, fabricate and install access systems at various levels within the 50 storey Quay Quarter Tower project, as well as an external access system to be used in conjunction with the building maintenance unit (BMU) supplied by FARRA Engineering. The fundamental requirement was to ensure the visible system components were inconspicuous and did not detract from the graceful architectural form.
One of the biggest challenges was designing fixing detail across the site, as this building is an expansion and improvement of the current structure. The age and at times unknown condition of the previous structure required specialist engineering designs that were developed from within the RIGCOM business.
With a twisting and cantilevered design, providing safe access to all areas of the building required horizontal rail and cable systems, walkways, stairs and ladders. The external rail systems are cleverly concealed within the underside or soffit of each level, with almost no visual impact on the deign of this unique building.
Client: BP Castrol
Location: BP Castrol Head Offices, Australasia
Project: Height safety system design & installation
RIGCOM was the successful tenderer for new height safety systems atop the head office buildings of BP Castrol Australasia.
With over two years in the design, planning and implementation of the systems, BP Castrol realised that RIGCOM could supply and install the new safety systems to meet their strict safety requirement.
The new height safety access and fall protection systems were inclusive of:
- Horizontal cable systems
- Personal anchorage points
- Ladders, walkways and guard rails
Given the client’s strict adherence to all safety measures, RIGCOM supplied state-of-the-art engineered safety systems that fulfilled and exceeded their expectations.
Client: Snowy Hydro Limited
Location: NSW, Victoria and South Australia
Project: Equipment inspections and testing
RIGCOM works with Snowy Hydro Limited to inspect, test and maintain height safety and lifting equipment across its network of power stations, dams, substations and depots within NSW, Victoria and South Australia.
Following a comprehensive tender process, RIGCOM was selected by Snowy Hydro to inspect more than 6000 items of equipment across 10 regions and 38 locations. RIGCOM has been utilising a fully integrated RFID platform that has been specifically developed to meet this client’s requirements, together with a customised database.
The RFID solution provides Snowy Hydro with an unprecedented level of detail about its assets for the protection of employees at all sites. It enables full tracking by recording equipment location, inspection history and compliance to relevant standards.
Location: Canberra, ACT
Project: Inspections and rectification
Government clients in Canberra wanted to ensure that the systems installed on their respective buildings provided safe access for workers conducting repairs and maintenance at height.
RIGCOM’s height safety inspectors conducted a full audit of rooftops to assess the types of activities that needed to be completed at height. Any site-specific risks were considered for compliance and then a risk assessment was developed with recommended rectifications, work methodologies and product and design solutions.
RIGCOM has now completed inspections and rectifications on over 100 education and health buildings throughout Canberra. It has also installed various systems including anchor points, walkways, handrails, access ladders, mobile fall arrest systems, horizontal and vertical lifelines, platforms and rail systems.
