Why lightning strike data matters
How lightning card systems work
The system consists of three components:

Lightning Card
Installed on the down conductor, it records the peak magnetic field created by a lightning strike, which directly correlates to the strike’s current in kiloamperes (kA). -
Card Holder
A non-conductive mount that secures the card in the correct position relative to the conductor. -
Lightning Card Reader
A device that reads the stored data from the card.
Our in-house capability
At RIGCOM, we now provide in-house lightning strike card reading utilising the Polytech Lightning Card System. This service allows us to generate PDF reports that include turbine IDs, locations, and other relevant details. Asset owners can access fast and reliable lightning event data without the need to send hardware off-site or depend on OEM turnaround times.
