Wind energy Projects

Client: SGRE
Location: Mount Mercer Wind Farm, Victoria
Project: Polytech ELLE Campaign 2023

Located approximately 30 km south of Ballarat in Western Victoria, the Mount Mercer Wind Farm spans 2,600 hectares and consists of 64 REpower MM92 wind turbines, with a total installed capacity of 131 MW.

RIGCOM was engaged for Leading Edge Protection (LEP) repairs on the Senvion (REpower) MM92 wind turbines using rope access techniques. The scope of work included LEP replacement on 30 blades (10 WTGs) of the LM45.3P model, which involved applying the Polytech ELLE shell system.

Key tasks:

  • Removal of old LEP 3M-V1 tape
  • Installation of the ELLE system

Our team of trained and qualified technicians efficiently managed the products and the project, ensuring safe and effective execution.

Client: Pacific Blue
Location: Portland Yard (Kepple Prince), Victoria
Project: Complex Blade Repair

The Portland Wind Farm, one of Australia’s largest, was commissioned in 2015. It features Senvion MM82 wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 2.05 MW, a hub height of 69 meters, and a blade tip height of 110 meters.

RIGCOM’s skilled team, in collaboration with third-party service providers, successfully executed a complex blade repair at the Portland Yard. The repair addressed significant web and spar cap cracks, spanning over 7 meters both internally and externally.

The work was carried out using various techniques, including Vacuum-Assisted Resin Infusion Moulding (VARIM), which was performed in multiple stages under the technical guidance of RIGCOM’s Engineering Support.

Client: GE
Location: Murra Warra II Farm, Victoria
Project: Wind turbine maintenance services

With the completion of 38 new turbines, the Murra Warra Wind Farm in Victoria increased its capacity of 209 MW, reducing 468 kilotonnes of CO2 emission.

Commissioned by GE to perform maintenance services on their 5.5 MW wind turbines, Rigcom’s scope of works included tower maintenance, blade repair and maintenance, Leading Edge Protection installation and maintenance, Polytech application, nacelle maintenance and hub repair.

With state-of-the-art technology and skilled technicians, RIGCOM utilised rope access techniques and work platforms to perform services up to 80 meters above ground level. By conducting preventative level works, RIGCOM ensures the maximum productivity of the wind farm, generating enough clean energy to power the equivalent of 150,000 homes.

Client: Acciona
Location: Macintyre Wind Farm, Queensland
Project: Wind turbine blade inspection, maintenance and installation

Macintyre Wind Farm, one of the largest in Australia, has a capacity of 1,026 MW and is expected to be operational in 2024.

With our expertise in blade repair and leading-edge works, RIGCOM was engaged by Acciona to assist with blade examination on the ground and in the air due to damage suffered during transportation and handling.

By performing maintenance and assisting with the installation of 540 blades both on the ground before installation and on the wind turbines, RIGCOM accelerated the commissioning and operation of the Macintyre Wind Farm, providing renewable energy to 700,000 homes and helping the Queensland Government with its decarbonisation commitments.

Client: Vestas
Location: Kiata Wind Farm, Victoria
Project: Wind turbine blade repairs

With regular preventative maintenance being the key to optimising power generation from wind turbines, RIGCOM was commissioned by Vestas to conduct blade repairs on nine turbines at Kiata Wind Farm in Victoria. These turbines generate clean energy for over 20,000 homes.

Over time, Australia’s harsh environmental conditions cause damage to turbine blades, so Leading Edge Protection and fibreglass repairs are important to improving their efficiency and lifespan.

Working up to 60 metres above ground level, RIGCOM technicians used rope access techniques and elevated work platforms to reach the blades and carry out maintenance and repairs.

Client: Nexif Energy Australia
Location: Lincoln Gap Wind Farm, South Australia
Project: Fibreglass repairs to wind turbine blades

Suspended 110 metres above ground level, RIGCOM technicians carried out fibreglass repairs to wind turbines located at the Nexif Energy Australia Lincoln Gap Wind Farm in South Australia. These repairs help to improve the efficiency and lifespan of blades, which have incurred damaged from constant environmental exposure.

Once fully operational, stages 1 and 2 of the Lincoln Gap Wind Farm will have 59 wind turbines and will power 155 thousand homes.
