Wind Energy - Wind Turbine Inspections

Proudly supporting Australasia’s growing wind energy industry, RIGCOM specialises in wind turbine inspections and maintenance.

Wind Turbine Inspection Services

RIGCOM customises wind turbine inspections and recertifications to suit each client, ensuring that all your systems – whether fall protection, rigging or access – comply and adhere to the applicable Standards.

By utilising a variety of access techniques, RIGCOM provides a fast, effective service to complete the detailed analysis of all aspects of damage to turbines.

From statutory maintenance through to emergency inspections, RIGCOM’s specialist technicians are qualified to assess:

Comprehensive Wind Turbine Checks

We can assess for wind turbine damage which may include surface, joint or root area cracking; moisture incursion or leading-edge erosion. For tower inspections, our NACE certified inspectors evaluate affected surfaces and report on any coating issues including rust and surface blistering.

Detailed reports are provided back to clients in order for them to make an informed decision about recommended maintenance and repairs.

Inspections can be undertaken dockside, to assess any damage incurred through transit, or pre or post installation.

"Inspections prior to end of warranty are particularly important, as these can pick up defects on blades, nacelle covers and spinners."

In-House Lightning Strike Card Reading for Wind Turbine Maintenance

At RIGCOM, we provide specialist lightning strike card reading and monitoring services for wind turbine asset owners using the Polytech Lightning Card System. By managing this process internally, we offer a faster and more responsive solution for verifying lightning events – an essential part of proactive wind turbine maintenance. This approach reduces downtime, improves maintenance planning, and supports warranty claims.

With the right tools and training, our Engineering and Technical Support Team read lightning strike cards at our facilities – providing well-structured, actionable data to support lightning strike monitoring and damage assessment.

Our service includes:
      • Physical removal and replacement of lightning cards (if required).
      • Accurate data extraction using the Polytech reader and software.
      • Generation of professional PDF reports with turbine details and event records.
      • Interpretation of results to support maintenance, repair, or asset integrity decisions.
We collaborate with asset owners, service providers and OEMs to support:
      • Lightning damage investigations.
      • Pre- and post-repair validation.
      • Routine inspections.
      • Data gathering for insurance or warranty purposes.

Why Use Our In-House Lightning Strike Monitoring Capability?

Our in-house service offers several advantages over processes that involve shipping cards overseas or waiting for OEM turnaround times:

      • Faster Insights: Eliminate external delays for quicker analysis.
      • Local Expertise: Receive tailored support based on your specific turbine model and blade type.
      • Cost Efficiency: Avoid third-party handling fees.
      • Comprehensive Reports: Designed for clarity – ideal for both asset managers and engineers.
      • Decision-Making Support: Benefit from assistance in damage assessment, warranty submissions, and long-term wind turbine maintenance planning.

Whether you suspect a strike or need confirmation, we help you move forward with confidence.

About Lightning Strike Cards

Lightning strike cards are passive monitoring devices integrated into the Lightning Protection System (LPS) of a turbine. When a blade experiences a lightning strike, the card captures and stores the intensity of the electrical current, which is later retrieved using specialised readers and software.

These cards provide critical data for understanding strike intensity and determining whether further inspection or repair is necessary – helping safeguard turbine performance and support asset integrity.
